The Real Thing

While traveling from one college to another this afternoon I passed three children standing in the rain under umbrellas selling lemonade.  It was a country road and I figured they most likely hadn’t had too many customers so I turned around and went back.  As I pulled up to their driveway they had given up and were heading to the house.  When they saw me stop they whirled about and came running with their container and cups.  The smallest was a wide-eyed little boy who said, “Mister, this isn’t lemonade from a can. This is from juice boxes!”   Wow!  How could I turn that down?  They gave me a huge glass full and waited with great anticipation until I downed the entire drink.  I could hardly wait to get to my next destination.

As I drove off I thought of what Peter said about Jesus.  “We have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” This isn’t lemonade from a can.  This is the real stuff.  Peter knew.  He was there.  He saw it and so did John, who said, “We heard it, we saw it and we touched it with our hands.”   The glory, the majesty, the wonder was Jesus.  They were on the mountain when Elijah and Moses came from heaven to visit with Jesus.   They were there when Jesus cried, “Lazarus, come forth.” They saw a risen little girl sit up and embrace her mom and dad.   They were there Sunday morning to see and touch their risen Lord.   “Mister, this isn’t lemonade from a can.  This is from juice boxes.” This is the real thing!
